Boy in mid-flight, Jodhpur, India, 2007 At the foot of the vast Mehrangarh Fort, one can find the Blue City, a small tightly knit maze of houses located towards the north of Jodhpur. In one of the narrow alleyways a boy flees McCurry's camera. Balancing three intersecting planes of colour - one of which is covered in stark red handprints - the image pulsates with energy as a young boy dashes through the narrow alleyways. Rather, it connects with the moment in a deeply profound way. Such as images are imbued with meaning, a significance that resonates deeply with a wide and diverse audience. Come in un “viaggio intorno all’uomo”, la fotografia di Steve McCurry mostra la vertigine della guerra, del dolore e della paura ma anche la poesia del quotidiano, la riscoperta dell’infanzia e il gusto dell’esotico. Il suo sguardo è sincero ed empatico allo stesso tempo. Il suo ritratto più famoso è quello della ragazza afgana dagli occhi verdi: uno sguardo diretto che inchioda chiunque lo guardi alle proprie responsabilità, vera icona del conflitto in Afghanistan.
